As the General Election is called for Thursday 4th July, Mark Wooding, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Central Devon, issued a call for a rural revival.

"At long last the General Election has been called," commented Mark Wooding, Liberal Democrat Candidate in Central Devon. "This moribund, divisive and failed Conservative Government could no longer ignore the demand from the country for an election and a change in government.

"In the last 18 months I have spoken to hundreds of people and it is clear they think it is time for change. But a change to what? I am standing to be elected as MP for Central Devon and I will campaign to reverse the neglect of our rural communities that has happended under the Conservatives. It is time to stop the Conservatives taking us for granted. We need a rural revival and that means better services and support for our towns, villages and hamlets. We need a fair deal for Central Devon. Our rural communities especially need a fair deal for our struggling farmers.

"If the residents of Central Devon do me the honour of choosing me as their MP I will have five priorities:
1.    Giving greater support to our farmers and our rural communities.
2.    Ending sewage dumping and getting potholes fixed.
3.    Ensuring hospital waiting lists fall and there is better access to dental treatment.
4.    Improving children’s education, and introducing a skills training passports for adults.
5.    Encouraging the creation of high value jobs in emerging green technologies.

"In Central Devon only the Liberal Democrats can beat the Conservatives. Labour don't think they can win. They didn't even have a candidate when the election was called. We need change and I promise I will help deliver that for our county and country."
