    On behalf of her family, it is with great sadness that we announce that Shirley Williams, Baroness Williams of Crosby, died peacefully in the early hours of Monday April 12th.

    Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said:

    This is heartbreaking for me and for our whole Liberal Democrat family.

    Shirley has been an inspiration to millions, a Liberal lion and a true trailblazer. I feel privileged to have known her, listened to her and worked with her. Like so many others, I will miss her terribly.

    Devon Liberal Democrats have confirmed their Devon County Council election candidates to get Devon back on its feet.

    Alan Connett, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, Devon County Council, said:

    David Chalmers, as Mayor of Northam, has made the following statement on the sad death of the Duke of Edinburgh, recalling his meeting with him in 2002:

    'On behalf of Northam Town Council and its Councillors I should like to convey our deep sadness at the announcement of the death of HRH Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh at the grand age of 99, just two months from his 100th Birthday. Prince Philip dedicated his life to our country and its people, and in our nation's history will be remembered for the steadfast support he has given to our Queen throughout their long marriage and the 69 years of her reign. He was a keen environmentalist and protector of the natural world long before we had ever heard reference to climate emergency. His Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme transformed lives and gave hope to thousands of young people.

    "His quiet and steadfast counsel and support of The Queen, is perhaps his greatest if unquantifiable contribution to our nation's history.

    "At this sad time for millions, we should never forget Prince Philip was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. So our thoughts must be with the whole Royal Family, but in particular with The Queen at this difficult time."

    Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey has officially launched the Liberal Democrats' Local Elections campaign. Ed, at the Lib Dems digital launch, asked voters to send a message to the Conservatives to do more to support local communities.

    Delivering his launch speech, he said: "By voting Liberal Democrat this May you will be telling this Conservative Government to cut taxes for small businesses and invest more to create a greener, cleaner neighbourhoods."

    Devon Liberal Democrats have launched their Devon County Council election manifesto 'Six-to-Fix' setting out their priorities for Devon over the next four years.

    The manifesto identifies six key areas to get Devon back on its feet following the Covid-19 pandemic and years of Tory mismanagement of Devon County Council.
