Pothole ()Potholes big problem in Taw Ward, Mid Devon.

Just before the COVID-19 lockdown your Liberal Democrat Focus Team undertook a survey in the Taw Ward (Mid Devon) of the issues facing residents and their families.

Parishioners in Coldridge, Down St Mary, Nymet Rowland, Wembworthy and Zeal Monachorum were asked for their views on the day-to-day problems they faced.

We had a great response and would like to say a big 'THANK YOU' to everyone who returned our questionnaire. The results will help your Liberal Democrat Councillors focus on your priorities for change and improvement.

By far and away the biggest problem highlighted by residents was the poor state of our roads, and especially the number of potholes and how slow it was to get them fixed. Over 85% of respondents identified potholes as an issue.

"I was surprised by the scale of the problem." commented Mark Wooding, local resident and Focus Team member. "I'd expected potholes to come up, but not to this extent. Clearly the Conservative run Devon County Council is failing in its duty to maintain the roads. I will be writing to local Tory Councillor Margaret Squires to ask her to take more decisive action on this issue. It really is time to 'punish potholes' and get this problem fixed."

Other issues coming up were public transport, dog fouling and broadband connection. Your Liberal Democrat Focus Team will be taking these issues up.

On a more positive front, local residents seemed generally happy with rubbish collection and recycling, with over 80% indicating they thought it was 'very good'.People had mixed views on Farmers' Markets. Whilst the attitude was generally positive it was clear they might get greater usage if they were more convenient.

Again we'd like to extend our 'thanks' to all residents who took part in the survey.
