BOVEY RESIDENTS DISMAYED BY LOCAL ROAD CLOSURE

The forthcoming 13 week road closure of the B3344 at Bradley Bends between Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh Knighton has infuriated local residents (see attached picture).

Local Lib Dem Campaigner Sally Morgan writing in the Mid-Devon Advertiser states that many local residents share her frustration with Bovis Homes over the issue.

"Bovis Homes main priority is to build houses at the least cost to themselves in order to make the maximum profit for their shareholders. Their responsibility is not the wellbeing of the local population and, in my opinion, they are not interested in working in harmony with the local community.

That responsibility falls upon the local planning authority (Teignbridge District Council) and its elected representatives. They should make sure that our local businesses and communities face as little disruption as possible and should have been fighting their corner from the start.

Over the last few years we have seen massive construction works at Drumbridges Roundabout, Penn Inn Roundabout and also the complete re-alignment of the B3193 (clay pits road). All of these roads have managed to stay open for the majority of the time. The Teign Valley Road also managed to stay open during major works, in part, due to opposition to closure from the district councillor at the time."

Many local residents at the Bradley Road end of town will face lengthy additions to their daily journeys to work whilst the closure will play havoc with the Bus Services to Exeter and Newton Abbot for commuters and college students. At the moment there does not appear to be any provision for the road closure on Bus Company Timetables or the Devon County Council Web Site even though additional journey times of 10 to 15 minutes are likely.
