Central Devon Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Alex White from Chawleigh , the youngest parliamentary candidate in the South West, will be the Liberal Democrat Candidate for Central Devon.

On being selected Alex said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to fight to be the MP for such a beautiful part of the world that I am proud to call my home. I care about our people, having grown up myself in our constituency and know the challenges that it faces".

"I attended both my local primary and secondary school here before studying European Law with German Law at Warwick University and have proven electoral experience as both a member of the Devon Youth Parliament and a University Student Representative for European Law. At the age of 13 I won my first election and became a member of Youth Parliament for Devon (nearly 10,000 students voted for me)."

"I am committed to my voluntary work and I have learned a great deal about social responsibility and investing into a community, specifically in my work for UNICEF, where I participated in a research programme into HIV awareness and helped deliver UNICEF road shows and was also a Rights Investigator for the Children's Rights Alliance. I was awarded the Diana Award and Youth Achievement Platinum Award in 2009 for the ability to inspire and motivate others in my voluntary work, especially as a Teaching Assistant at Exeter Deaf Academy."

"I care passionately about alleviating the challenges faced by our poorest, securing a far better quality of life for our elderly, providing the highest standards of education within our schools and delivering a fairer society. The Liberal Democrats have already delivered an £800 tax cut to thousands of people across Central Devon but I know that much more can be done to help our local people. I have a wealth of experience and mixed with youth and energy, feel that I can provide the fresh beginning that Central Devon so desperately needs."

Councillor John Nutley, Chairman of Central Devon Liberal Democrats said: "Alex, who lives in Devon, will bring a breath of fresh air to the political scene and is young, enthusiastic and very dedicated. Having worked alongside Sir Nick Harvey, he has a sound knowledge of the workings of parliament and understands what our youth want and deserve throughout the constituency. He also appreciates the needs and requirements for the elderly. Alex has already been working hard in the constituency delivering a petition against the Tory garden tax and opposing cuts to local bus services."
