MID-DEVON LIB DEMS HIT OUT AT TORY CUTS AND TAXES BY THE BACK DOOR

December 16, 2014 12:08 PM

Care Homes for older people are being shut, children's homes and day centres closed, youth services decimated by the Conservatives at County Hall and public toilets shut. Hundreds of residents throughout the area have already signed a petition demanding that the Conservatives at Mid Devon District Council scrap their plans to charge £50 a year to collect garden waste.

It is obvious why local Conservatives boast about no increases to council tax - they just make us all pay by introducing these sorts of taxes through the back door!

Tory cuts by Mid Devon's Conservatives at Tiverton mean snow bound roads are less likely to be cleared. Lib Dem Councillor John Downes said "We are concerned because their new proposals are to make further cuts of over £3 million in Devon's roads budget. These includes not filling up grit bins, stopping grass cutting and weed spraying at many locations, reducing gully cleaning and snow clearing.

Lib Dem Councillor Nick Way said "We will continue to do all we can to reduce the effect of these imposed cuts locally. Because of the Lib Dem initiated Community Fund and help from the Town Council we have been able to respond to residents requests and increase the number of grit bins in Crediton town to around thirty".
